Leps Orchestra
From a Willow Grove Park Concert Program, July 8th, 1923:
"Wassili Leps was born in a delightful summer place in the vicinity of Petrograd, Russia. He had his early training in Petrograd. When he was nine years of age his father was sent to Germany in an official capacity and Mr. Leps received most of his general and musical education in Dresden, the beautiful capital of Saxony, and an art center of the greatest importance. Mr. Leps studied piano, organ, composition, voice culture and several orchestra instruments. He played in the orchestra...and later became operatic conduuctor. He entered this country in that capacity by way of New Orleans and finally arrived in Philadelphia, where he has been very prominent in the musical life of the city."
"For thirteen seasons Mr. Leps has been connected with the musical work of Willow Grove Park, besides having a number of seasons in other cities as symphonic conductor."
